Lack of transparency in the fishing industry has enabled overfishing, illegal fishing and human rights and labor abuses. Transparency is a critical tool for combatting IUU fishing. Transparency can in part be achieved today through simple and affordable measures that countries around the world can easily implement. We’re calling on governments around the world to adopt the principles of the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency into law and in practice. With the swift adoption of the Charter principles by governments around the world we can restore the ocean to ensure it continues to support the livelihoods of millions of people around the world.
